Overview
The Black Rose #2 unpatented placer mining claim is known for quality gold values, ranging from nuggets, flakes, and fine gold. Year round water flow, two small bench deposits, numerous boulders and winding sharp stream beds with deep pools and back eddies.  Portions of the stream course are straight and fast flowing.  This claim is ideal for dredging or a small wash plant.

Features

Depth to bedrock is variable depending upon where you are on the claim.  Organic growth and overburden consumes the claim outside of the benches and main active stream channel.  Usually, it's a 3 foot minimum to get down past the organic veg and overburden to hit gravels.  The gravels range from 5-6 feet in places to 12-15 feet to bedrock.  The best gold came from at or near bedrock in the form of fines, flakes, and even nuggets.  Small float gold can be found highly disseminated within the first few feet of gravels, but the most concentrated gold is down near the bedrock contact.

History
Upstream from the Black Rose #3 lies numerous hard rock mines that were developed in the late 1800's.  This hard rock mining zone of mineralization is believed to be the main source of the gold deposition found on Black Rose #3, additional gold reefs were also located outside of the main mineralization zone further depositing additional gold values on the Black Rose #3.

Downstream from the claims lies a gold dredge that was working its way up Willow Creek to the Black Rose #3.  The dredge never made it up to the claim leaving the Black Rose #3 untouched by the dredge.

The dredge was stopped due to the crash of precious metals prices and rampant gold theft by the dredge workers.

Past Claim Work
This claim has been worked recreationally with a high banker sporadically and the has primarily been an exploration/prospecting project.  The Black Rose #3 Placer claim has had a successful Notice of Intent Permit (NOI) executed on the claim in the 2021 mining season.  Three other permits have been successful within .25 miles of the claim.  With a successful track record for permitting within an already established mining area the Black Rose #3 is a great claim for a serious small gold mining operation.

Access
2WD SUV accessible via dirt Forest Service RD 765 approximately 1 mile from the Town of Tincup.  The Forest Service RD goes right thru the claim making it easier to launch a dredge into the stream without the need for long hikes and carrying equipment great distances.  The town of Tincup is located about 60 minutes from the town of Gunnison, Colorado.  With access to the town/claim from Gunnison being via Almont Canyon.

 

The claim is at around 10,000 feet above sea level and the accessible mining season generally runs from May - October depending upon snow conditions.  From November to April the claim is only accessible via snow machine.

No camping is allowed on the claim without a permit due to a one mile camping exclusion zone around the town of Tincup.

Tincup General Area Info

The Tincup area is great for a summer getaway.  Quality dispersed camping sites are found in the general area that can accommodate large fifth wheel and all your toys.  Taylor Res is located about 10 miles downstream and hosts great fishing and water recreation during the summer.  There is a restaurant in Tincup that is open during the summer and a BBQ food trailer.  ATV & UTV riding is extremely popular with a large amount of trails active in the region.  Mirror lake is also close by for further water sport and hiking activities.  Taylor River is a great designated trout fishing stream with miles of open creek access.
