Overview

Located in the Rio Grande National Forest 10.5 miles Northwest of the town of Saguache, Colorado the Klondike Hollow 006 Unpatented Lode Claim is 20.66 acres of easily accessible yet remote mining claim.

Abandoned in the early 1904's due to the war effort, the claim boasts quality assay results, multiple mine shafts, and significant dozer cut open surface trenches that expose the mineralized vein structures in an easily accessible form.

With an exploration ore sample panel completed for gold and silver values across 19 separate samples this information is imperative to give a quality representation of the ore values onsite.

Due to the sheer number of dozer cuts, shaft tailings, and dozer push piles.  Processing the surface ore alone would provide a small mining operation years of work without going underground.

Camping

Camping is allowed on the claim for up to 14 days continuous per month and the camping area is located directly creekside in the center of the claim.

Access

10.5 miles from the town of Saguache.

With no thru access the claim has minimal traffic and has largely been sheltered for years by the high elevation, short mining season, and lack of continuous loop road infrastructure.

The claim can be accessed with standard 2WD SUv/pickup truck, although 4WD is recommended for early in May during mud season.

History

Developed in the early 1900's the Klondike Hollow Project 006 Lode Claim is located atop of a signifcant regional vein and fault system that has produced quiality gold and silver values in addition to other base metals such as Iron, Copper, and Lead.  The mine was shut down pre-maturely due to multiple world war efforts and never re-opened.  The timbers that make up the miners cabin overtop of one of the mine shafts are all hand hewn log joints made with a hand axe.  Numerous surface dozer cuts expose the ore body and characteristics of this claim that is hard to beat for research and development.

The lode mines were so rich that a small prospectors tent/cabin boom town sprung up close to this Lode claim called Spook City, old remnants of the town are still visible to this day.

Geology

Local alteration of early barren stage of alteration by fumarolic or acid hot spring activity resulted in intense silification, wall rock replacement by jasper and alteration products of hematite, diaspore, alunite, barite, zunyite, rutile, and kaolin minerals.

Later mineralization stage by alkaline or neutral solutions deposited ore and gangue and caused micaceous alteration (sericite and chlorite) and calcite, quartz, and pyrite.
