The Gallinas Canyon #5 claim covers two separate creek drainages for a total of 20 acres.  This claim can be worked dry or wet and is 20 acres in size which gives lots of opportunity to work different streams and benches.  Fine gold was found both in dry benches and within the flowing stream upon survey.

West Drainage:

The west drainage features a very narrow canyon with small flowing stream thru the center at the time of survey.  Additionally, on the west side of the creek sharp jagged bedrock protrudes from the toe of the mountain leaving an excellent spot to crevice for gold.

The center the the creek has the active stream channel running thru it, this channel has small tight twists and turns where additional gold has settled.  Bedrock is shallow and it is very easy to find a good pay layer.  Also, there are numerous large boulders that would be excellent spots to look for gold around and underneath.

On the east side of the west drainage there is a number of small dry alluvial gravel bars, hotspots of gold were located within certain sections of the gravel bars.

East Drainage:

The east drainage is a wide valley with washed gravels running the full width and length.  This drainage has occasional water flow but is primarily dry.  Narrow runs of exposed creek bed can be easily worked that are tight up against the bedrock wall creating and excellent location to dry wash.  The center of the drainage has large volumes of alluvial float material spread out into numerous wash piles.

The claim is 2WD accessible via paved RD 152.  Located close to Silver City in Grant County New Mexico within Gallinas Canyon.  Two excellent camping locations are located nearby the claim.  Upper Gallinas Canyon Camping area or Railroad Camping area, both areas are free and outfitted with restrooms, bear proof trash containers, picnic tables, and fire rings situated under old growth pine trees.  A very tranquil and relaxing place to camp.
