Overview
A claim that shouldn't exist....
Located just 3 miles down a well maintained dirt Forest Service road from the paved highway; a wash featuring large boulders, exposed bedrock, shallow overburden, and easy access provides the perfect setup for a miner looking to purchase a gold claim in Arizona.
Located directly below the lode source that carries free milling gold along with native copper, this placer claim has significantly higher gold values than most other placer claims.
Additionally, the claim has not been worked large scale, leaving the exciting prospect of working portions of virgin ground and uncovering gold just like the old time miners once did.
Recommended Mining Methods
Dry Washing, Metal Detecting, Crevicing, Recirculating Wet Sluicing
Geology
When looking for a placer claim the hard rock geology that is located upstream of a placer claim is the main predictor for the type and amount of alluvial gold and other mineralization that gets weathered and eroded from the vein system into the washes and alluvial gravels. In the case of the Cherry Gulch 001 placer; the claim is tucked directly under the main lode source.
The main lode source is the Radio Mine vein. While this vein is not on the claim; the alluvial gold and mineralization has traveled a very short distance and deposited into the bedrock and within the alluvial sedimentation layers on the Cherry Gulch 001 placer claim.
To speak to the vein system further, this vein system has a primary vein that measures 20 inches wide and is well documented by the Arizona Lode Gold Mines and Gold Mining (1967), Arizona Bureau Of Mine Bull, 137: 32., and Wilson, ED. , Cunningham J.B, . and Butler, GM (1934) as a gold producing vein system.
There are additional smaller vein systems in the area that help to support high levels of alluvial gold.
The Arizona Mineral Potential maps lists this area as a high area of mineral potential.
Access
Unlike many claims in Arizona with only ATV/UTV access; the Cherry Gulch 001 placer has great road accessibility. Located east of Prescott and south of the the town of Cherry this claim only has approximately 3 miles of Forest Service dirt road to travel between the claim and the highway turnoff.
Most all vehicles can access this claim without issue. Additionally, the road does run through the claim making for accessing the washes with equipment easy and convenient.
Claim Details
The main wash flowing thru the claim has 775 linear feet of wash system within the claim boundaries. Additionally, secondary smaller washes outside of the main wash account of another 1,479 linear feet of secondary washes.
The average width of the main wash is 10-14 feet and the average width of the secondary wash systems are approximately 2-3 feet.
Overburden ranges from 6 inches to two feet with large portions of bedrock exposed. There are two large bends to the main wash system creating a great place for gold and other minerals to settle. Large boulders can be found within and around the wash area at random.
There is one camping spot located on this claim. The general area holds other dispersed camping spots and there is one Forest Service campground located approximately 2 miles away. The town of cherry also has other accommodations such as small local hotels and RV camp spots.
Gold sizes found on this claim: Fine gold is very prevalent and the most common size of gold to run into on the claim, flake gold is also found on the claim and usually is not super water worn (fairly coarse), additionally, metal detecting a small patch of bedrock with a MineLab GPX 5000 detector and 18" Coiltek Elite Mono Coil also yielded two nuggets.
