Overview
The Union Park Gold 009 Placer Claim is located on the gold and silver bearing drainage of Lottis/Cameron Creeks within the Tincup Mining District of Gunnison County, Colorado.

Both creeks are in a known gold, silver, and lead bearing alluvial deposit.  The gold size on this claim ranges from fines to flat flakes.  

​

The claim features 600 + feet of flowing stream within the claim boundaries.  In most places on the claim gold can be found within the flowing stream course or the side gravel benches.  

​

The creek bed is a mix of fine alluvial material and medium/large boulders.  Cameron creek sits below several past producing gold and silver mines that were cut into Sawatch Quartzsite which is the main source of the alluvial mineralizations.

This claim is well suited to small recreational style prospectors up to professional dredging interests.  Easy access, low overburden, and quality mineral deposits make this claim an adventure for the whole family!​

Camping

Dispersed Camping is allowed in the general area.  There are great dispersed camping areas  North of the claim that are more suited to RV style camping.  You may camp in a designated dispersed camping area for up to 14 continuous days.

Access
This claim is accessible via dirt Forest Service RD  approximately 5 miles from Taylor Reservoir.  4WD is necessary to access this claim.  Utv's are recommended.

 

 The town of Gunnison is located about 60 minutes from Taylor Reservoir which has all of the necessary stores for supplies.   

 

The claim is at around 10,00 feet above sea level and the accessible mining season generally runs from May - October depending upon snow conditions.  From November to April the claim is only accessible via snow machine.

Dredging, High Banking, Sluicing, Gold Panning

 

Any mining activity greater than gold panning or gravity river sluicing will likely require a mining permit before beginning operations.

Tincup General Area Info

The Tincup area is great for a summer getaway.  Quality dispersed camping sites are found in the general area that can accommodate a large fifth wheel and all your toys.  Taylor Res is located about 15 miles downstream and hosts great fishing and water recreation during the summer.

There is a restaurant in Tincup & Pitkin that is open during the summer.  ATV & UTV riding is extremely popular with a large amount of trails active in the region.

 

Mirror lake is also close by for further water sport and hiking activities.  

 

Taylor River is a great designated trout fishing stream with miles of open creek access.

​

Pitkin is home to one general store, several small restaurants, a small hotel, and plenty of recreational pursuits beyond gold prospecting.
